In 2019, BUFAB Lann AB implemented the SenseNode solution. At that time, they were already working towards making their operations more energy-efficient and monitoring their energy consumption but lacked the necessary measurement tools. With SenseNodes’ solution, they could now track consumption in detail, allowing for adjustments and savings. This marked the beginning of their efforts to optimize their energy usage.

Solution

The first step was to install sensors, and with the assistance of SenseNodes experts, these sensors were configured and linked to SenseNodes’ analysis tools. BUFAB Lann now had a clear overview of their energy consumption and insights into areas where parameters could be adjusted to enhance efficiency. This resulted in reduced energy consumption and lower costs.

Results

BUFAB Lann initiated its energy efficiency project by installing data collection and analysis measurement points. The initial focus was on the manufacturing equipment to gain a clear overview and understand how the energy was used, identifying the lowest operational needs, analysing base loads during weekends with no production, and more. During this stage, no investments in new equipment were made.

In 2022, SenseNodes’ analysis tools were upgraded to Energy Analytics, allowing for a more detailed overview of energy usage. In October same year, an extensive savings project was initiated. Through adjustments to routines, employee engagement, and reviewing base loads, BUFAB Lann successfully reduced its electricity consumption by 22%, equivalent to 917,790 kWh, compared to the previous year. This success wouldn’t have been possible without detailed energy data measurements and advanced analysis with Energy Analytics.

Additional savings were achieved by adjusting the washing process, changing chemicals, and reducing the washing temperature from 60°C to 40°C. This adjustment on a single machine resulted in a 30% reduction in energy consumption.

The next step in BUFAB Lann’s efforts to optimize its energy usage is to maintain the current levels and strive to improve them further next year. They are also considering reviewing potential investments in the machine park to maximize efficiency even more.
